A University of Michigan SMTD Graduate, I specialize in jazz, whether traditional, straight ahead or in a big band context, as well as New Orleans, Gospel, R&B, Latin styles of music. I am a reading musician with experience working in pit orchestras most recently in the musical based on the works of Fats Waller!

Biography
I was born and raised in Detroit to an artistic family. My mother, Upright Bassist, Marion Hayden and father, Painter and Sculptor, Saffell Gardner shaped my sound and artistic palate from a young age. From sounds of straight ahead jazz, traditional NOLA Music, and Neo-Soul to Afro-Beat, Reggae and Motown, I have been in to it all! I received much classical training in the magnet Detroit School of Arts High School where I drummed in the Wind Symphony and Orchestra and refined my drum set technique (as well as love for latin rhythms) in the University of Michigan Jazz Program under Robert Hurst, Benny Green, and Sean Dobbins.
