Biography

Nicholas Martin is a Michigan-based musician—guitarist, arranger, composer—who performs solo and collaborative projects. Winner of the SFCM Guitar Concerto Competition, he is an active concert artist, appearing as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral soloist across the country. Martin has most recently appeared as a soloist with the SFCM Orchestra, San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra, and Michigan Guitar Society.

An avid and talented arranger, Martin is continuously creating new arrangements and transcriptions for guitar, and was recently commissioned by the Guitar Foundation of America’s Mentorship Program to arrange a piece for a mentee to be published in a compilation of guitar music by BIPOC composers. He seeks to champion a more diverse repertoire of classical guitar music by producing, commissioning, and arranging music from diverse composers.

Nicholas Martin holds a MM from San Francisco Conservatory of Music, having studied with Marc Teicholz, and has participated in masterclasses with David Russell, Antigoni Goni, Andrew York, and Meng Su. Martin loves the color blue, Mozart’s Symphony 29, bowling, college football, Bach circle progressions, skateboarding, and the sound of a pedal steel guitar.
